GLUTATHIONE

AND
HEAVY METALS / DETOXIFICATION

Glutathione is one of the most important detoxifiers found in the body.

DETOXIFICATION - GREATER DETAIL

Most environmental toxins capable of damaging nerves or myelin are fat soluble. This means they can actually be absorbed into the lipid membrane, take up residence there and gradually accumulate over months or years to dangerously high levels. This causes much more damage than if, for example, the mercury atom just bumped up against the myelin momentarily as it floated by in the blood stream.

Lead, Mercury and Cadmium are fat soluble. So are the organic solvents used today, many pesticides and a host of other common toxins that we encounter in our day to day lives.

Normally, elimination of fat soluble substances from the body is through the bile. Bile is important for digestion of food and almost all of it is reabsorbed from the intestine to be reused, over and over again. When the bile is reabsorbed, so is everything dissolved in it - including the lead and mercury you are trying to get rid of.

Luckily, when these same toxins combine with Glutathione, they form a water soluble compound that can be excreted once and for all by the kidneys. Removal of heavy metals from the body requires Glutathione.

Unluckily, the Glutathione is also excreted from the body, so the more toxins you are exposed to, the greater your risk of glutathione deficiency.

Glutathione is also required to detoxify the nicotine and free-radicals contained in cigarette smoke - even second hand smoke. It is effective against the toxins contained in the exhaust fumes of motor vehicles and also against pesticides and other environmental toxins.
