MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

EXERCISE is VERY IMPORTANT

Regular exercise and stretching are some of the most important things you can do to help your body win the battle with MS. The old cliche - Use it or Lose it has never been more appropriate.

Gradually this section will fill with various exercises and stretch routines with, hopefully, something for everyone. If you have an exercise routine, perhaps from a physical therapist or trainer that you think might be useful to others, send it to me and I may be able to post it.

WHATEVER YOU CAN DO, DO IT MORE OFTEN

- If you have a hard time walking from the living room to the kitchen, force yourself to do it 2 extra times per day, then 3, then 4, etc., not just when you have something to do.

- If you have trouble getting out of a chair, do it an extra 5 times per day, then 6, then 7, etc., just for the exercise. Pretty soon you will find it getting easier.

- If you have trouble going up steps, just do one at a time. Grab the bannister, step up one step then step back down. Do it again with the other leg. Do this a couple of times a day and gradually work your way up.
