MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS

ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES

INTRODUCTION

In this section we start looking at #3 in the Goals for this Web Site.

#3: Find specific ways to counteract these specific abnormalities.

Making sense of the many different supplements been recommended as Alternative Therapies for Multiple Sclerosis can seem hopeless.

This section summarizes (briefly) the alternative therapy recommendations that make most sense to me, the ones I would likely recommend if you were actually a patient in my office. It is possible that for your individual situation there are alternatives not on this list, or that the list contains alternatives you may not need.

Obviously, it is impossible to prepare a list that is guaranteed safe for every one. If you have other health conditions or take prescription medications you should consult you personal physician before starting alternative therapies. However, before doing so I recommend you read the information in the following sections that provide much greater detail on why this particular supplement may be effective. Also, please read the sectionUnderstanding the Traditional Medicine Mindset. This will enable you to discuss the matter more completely with your doctor.

The treatments mentioned are usually very safe, in fact they are generally safer than most prescription medications. However there is always the chance of drug interactions or other problems. For example, taking Vitamin E along with prescription blood thinners (anticoagulants like coumadin) can cause bleeding.

The following pages give greater detail on these alternative therapies and include some, but definitely not all of the risks and cautions. Always read the labels carefully. Do not change your current prescriptions without first consulting your physician. When in doubt, check with your doctor.
